Claude the alligator was a much-beloved resident of @calacademy and our unofficial mascot. He captured our hearts—along with the rest of San Francisco's. We were honored to play a small part in caring for him.
Anthropic ran a 24/7 feed of his swamp on screens by the office elevators, kept white gator plushies on desks, and sponsored his public webcam. Not the origin of the name. The mascot anyway.
San Francisco renamed the street in front of the Academy Claude the Alligator Way in January 2026.
